Us4Us ’21 Unplugged

As a newbie of only a couple of years to this unique dorpie my early experience of social interactions here varies across a diverse spectrum, from wonderful to downright awful. Have heard plenty good things about past Groet is ‘n Moet happenings where the community comes together for some fun, and usual stalwart suspects deliver their excellence for others to enjoy. But this was my first, and a memorable one too!

From arriving to a kindly waiting ticket and proper Covid19 registration to saying my good nights, I had a blast. Good to see how The Bush Pub’s layout and facilities were being organised to accommodate the event. Super to see Real Food Company setting up for dinner so knowing their customary tasty treats were on the evening menu. Pleased to help shift some firewood for a warm blaze on a crisp Karoo autumn evening. Sharing some friendly chatter. Reassured to see SuperSport was on in the bar to keep track of Stormers versus Bulls. Delighted to see 3 generation families being entertained by some serious local talent as a prelude to loudly contented and relaxed togetherness. Happy to add some new texture to characters met around town. Smiling with the carefully curated children’s light throng threading its enchanting circle around the evening. Sitting with friends chatting animatedly over dinner. Watching it all unfold around me. All in all, damn special…

But Hierdie Karoo was undoubtedly the main event. Their telling, their story, their way showcasing our wonderful African oral traditions. Am newly acquainted with GellyBlik and Wallye_SA around their day job but sensed a whole new dimension in how their art plays to that space. Amazed to learn that Wiro and Garreth are so new to their instruments. Moved through The Junaid_IX staking his claim through Ek is ‘n Kleurlingman. Simon’s flute adding some cameo spice. Charmed with vocals from Chloe and Mr Bluuz resonating through it all. Impressed with Percy’s multi-talented energies. Serious glue to bind our humanity. Some lovely learning for me…

Big thanks to PACT and their Crew for all their hard work in delivering a magic evening, helping secure a vision of our future Prince Albert community trust…
